At bachelor's level, a summer placement at a company or organisation chosen by the student. At master's level, a research course spread over four semesters, which builds the dissertation. The forms and regulations are shared.

The internship placement
The placement takes place over the summer, at a company or organisation chosen by the student, for the number of hours set out in the curriculum.

Finding placement opportunities
Students look for and identify a place to carry out their internship.

- recruitment platforms, career events or other sources of your own
Companies interested in hosting students can publish offers and internship topics on the UPT internship portal.

April to June 2027
Applying for and confirming the placement
Students apply for the opportunities that interest them and, where applicable, take part in the selection processes run by companies. Once a placement has been found, students complete the formalities required for the internship. Where the internship is not carried out under an employment contract, the documents required by UPT procedures are completed and signed.

June to September 2027
Carrying out the placement
Students carry out their placement at the company or organisation they have chosen, for the number of hours set out in the curriculum of their programme.

At the end of the placement
The internship documents
When the placement ends, students:
- complete the internship report
- obtain the internship certificate, signed by the tutor or the company's representative
- upload the required documents to UPT Campus Virtual, following the instructions given by the faculty

September 2027
The internship colloquium
The internship coordinators organise colloquia to assess the placements carried out. The schedule of the colloquia and the instructions on the documents required are communicated to students in good time.
What to submit and when
The documents differ according to whether the placement is carried out under an employment contract or not.

Research practice
At master's level, the internship is a course spread over four semesters, which builds the dissertation step by step: from choosing a topic and reading around it through to writing it up.
I
Semester
- Choosing a member of staff to supervise the dissertation. The supervisor can be changed later if circumstances require it; ARACIS rules set the tenth week of the third semester as the deadline for choosing one.
- Settling on a research and development topic.
- Reading the scientific literature on the chosen topic, and learning how scientific publications are written.
At the end
The student proposes a title, even a provisional one, for the dissertation, together with a set of bibliographic references used in reading around the topic: papers published in specialist journals or at conferences, books in the field, or articles online.
Assessment
Depending on the rules set at department level, by the year dean, by another member of staff teaching the Internship course, or by the dissertation supervisor. The assessment results in a mark.
II
Semester
- A critical analysis of the state of the art on the chosen topic.
- Identifying the points where specific innovative solutions can be offered, and proposing further developments.
- Learning the principles of writing a research report.
At the end
The student proposes a research and development direction for the dissertation and sets out in detail the parts that justify the choice of topic and describe the state of the art in the field.
Assessment
By the dissertation supervisor, with the year dean stepping in only where necessary, for example for re-enrolled students who do not yet have a supervisor. The assessment results in a mark.
III
Semester
- Proposing and, where applicable, implementing solutions to the problems identified, and setting out the expected results.
- Defining the structure and content of a research paper.
- Writing about and presenting the topic.
At the end
The student proposes a table of contents for the dissertation, focused on the solutions envisaged, together with a work plan with activities and deadlines.
Assessment
By the dissertation supervisor or by the course leader, depending on the master's programme. The assessment results in a mark.
IV
Semester
- The semester is devoted to the dissertation.
- It draws on what was learnt in the internship courses of the three previous semesters and can use the material produced then.
- It may include preparing a scientific paper for a specialist journal or conference, or for the student scientific communication sessions.
Assessment
By the dissertation supervisor, who awards a grade.
